One of the traditions that many Korean Americans still hang onto is the celebration of our children’s first birthday (Dol- 돌) called doljanchi. This is a long-held Korean tradition, which was something truly worthy of celebration back in the day as infant mortality rates were high. Doljanchi is a time to wish the baby a long and prosperous life, and to foretell their future. Typically, a doljanchi is a large community event filled with friends and family, some would even say it is comparable to a mini wedding. We say, do it your way! Go as big or as intimate as you’d like and use as little or as much of our kits as you want.

One of the main events of this celebration is doljabi (돌잡이), which is a fortune-telling event where the baby is placed in front of various objects and urged to crawl to an object for selection. It is believed that the object the baby selects will tell their future. We have included some traditional staple items like yarn (long life) or money (wealth) As well as modern items like a microphone (singer/celebrity) and an assortment of sports balls (athlete). Feel free to get creative and place objects that are fitting to your liking, taste or interests!

Throwing an event like this can be intimidating but with our kits it doesn’t have to be. We created these rental kits to encourage you to keep these traditions alive and to help you honor this tradition in your own way.

We provide the decor and you set it up! Guides and photos will be provided to help with set up or DIY it to fit your needs/style!

Pick up/drop off in the Everett/Lynnwood or Seattle area. Set up/Delivery is not an option.
